Smithsonian Rock Tumbler
Smithsonian Rock Tumbler
How do I use a glass of rock? I?
I have a Smithsonian I bought my son for Christmas and I lost the instructions.
This is a small glass barrel that comes with tumbling sand. To work, you must fill the barrel with about 1 / 4 inch of water, about 2 / 3 full of rocks and sand. You want a mixture of water and sand that just will not wash the stones when the barrel turns, so we want to be a paste consistency almost like a paste. The idea is that the grains stick to rocks. Ideally, you want to Polish Stones in steps, using progressively increasing grain finer and finally a polishing compound. It begins with gravel, sand finer secondly, thirdly a grain, and a polishing step. Each step can take up to one week drop. The sand is a grain lapping very poor, and takes longer to get rolling to produce the same result, more sand can not be used for any rock that is softer than quartz, and many attractions rock falls are some variety of quartz.
