How long should a glass of rock sitting?

My little brother just got a glass of rock for his birthday and he did not understand very well the time we had to wait for the rock to become ... well polished. He has a Thümler Rock Tumbler Polisher. Anyone have an idea?

Commercial rates take about a day to polish, so I let it run for a day and see what happened. I suppose it's possible "in Polish," a rock? Have fun.
