How do I clean my precious stones?

hi! one of my biggest hobbies is to collect gems. I buy already cut, or I'll travel and dig them myself. I wonder what kind of cleaning solution can be used to clean my rough stones? some are too big for a glass of rock. the stone looks better when wet, and I wondered if there was a solution to permanently keep the stone a smooth, shiny and full of natural color. thanks for the suggestions!

Much depends on what stones are. Quartz, Beryl (including Emerald) and other minerals have unique indexes of refraction. Put a piece of agate, with fractures in the water often make it appear much better. But try that with a piece of sapphire will not do much. Use common cooking oil often (at least temporarily) fracture filling and the natural color and transparency better, but again, the stones of quartz stones will improve more than with the highest of refraction. for quartz "Cedar Oil" works as well as its refractive index (RI) is similar to that of quartz. It is likely that costs about $ 40 per gallon plus shipping. There are two part epoxy that works well in Beryl (if emerald by chromium). Opticon is a particular brand designed to absorb the emeralds, filling fractures. You can buy some at the company below or search for other sources. It is not cheap (~ $ o $ 20/cup 100/gallon). This often is done commercially, covering the stones inside a glass bell and induction of a vacuum. Air is sucked from cracks and fractures and when the vacuum is released if the resin is pulled to do this in a fracture, but still valuable emerald can destroy its sale value. Two cheap, "coincidence" methods would be kept in a tank, since water will help a lot and could return to light, even if they have fish. Another method would be to buy polyurethane transparent (the kind that is painted on wood to make tables, high gloss brown) and soak them, then paint with a coat and let dry. Want a "water clear "polyurethane. Try this in a not so valuable to see if you like the effect. If there were an easy, they will probably (if purchased) and would have been treated, although this is not the case if collected some as Beryl or agate. Good luck and remember that epoxy resins and cedar oil are toxic and can be dangerous and require practice safe for use. If you are not an adult, find a knowledgeable adult to help. Safety first!
