They come in clearly marked biodegradable UV resistant sleeves for comfortable handling and algae prevention. ‘Expert’ slabs have vertical fibers for faster drainage; best for hobbyists These ‘Classic’ slabs have horizontal fibers for slower drainage; best for hot/dry climates Growing Slabs are a great choice for vegetable crops or almost any plant that needs extra support at the base. Slabs come wrapped in U.V. resistant plastic that makes a good container for the roots to thrive. A 3 foot slab could hold up to 5 plants. To use, cut a hole in the plastic the size of the rockwool cubes you use. Full the slab with water to moisten all the rockwool. Flip over the slab and cut drainage slits in the bottom across the width. Flip the slab back over and place your plants growing in cubes on the holes. The roots will grow into the slab. Water with a drip system. Grodan stonewool is pH neutral, making it easy to maintain the ideal pH values between 5.5 - 6.5. These pH levels are essential for optimum plant development and substrate integrity. Lastly, cut an ''X'' for each plant and fold back flaps to place your Grodan Gro-block onto. Withold watering for 2-3 days to encourage plant roots to grow quickly into the slab. We recommend placing 4 or 5 plants onto each 36'' long slab. Stonewool (Rockwool) is made from molten rock spun into fibers like cotton candy. It's then pressed into different shapes and cut into cubes and slabs. The cubes and slabs feel like a sponge and will not breakdown. The small Multiblocks and Miniblocks can be used for starting cuttings or seeds. After the plants grow out of the small blocks, you can place them in the holes in the larger growing locks. From there you can place them on a slab for larger plants. Although the rockwool can be heat sterilized after use and re bagged, most hobby growers just throw them away after use. The Grodan Growcubes are small squares of rockwool about the size of a sugar cube. They are used for filling pots or mixing with Hydroton for added moisture. The Granulated rockwool is also for filling pots and is less expensive than the Growcubes but does not have the same aeration. |
