I am thinking of all calf gold. If you see the amazing / terrible things happen because of your god ... Why in the world to convert to the new religion with a golden calf? I understand a drop in people outside their faith after a couple of generations ... but the same people who witnessed miracles (more water from the rock and manna from heaven?) were those who jumped ship. It does not sound fishy? I mean, there is absolutely no historical evidence of pests. One would think that would be something ... as a former restaurant receipt showing a lower price for the frogs' legs ... something! Anyway, what about talking nonsense. You can answer the original question, but feel free to expose my little rant if you like.

The making of a golden calf has to be understood in its ancient context. In the ancient Near Eastern religions the gods had thrones or "vehicles" that is often depicted as animals.
